October 11, 2013 Education, Fall, Green, Kids, Kids Grow Club, Seasonal, Seeds, Van Putte Gardens The October 2013 meeting of the Kids Grow Club was tons of fun as usual! We had over 35 kids ages 5-12 come for the “Create Your Own Pumpkin Creature” meeting on Sunday afternoon. The pumpkins, glue, and materials ready and waiting for everyone to arrive! There were a few googly eyes and pipe-cleaners in the mix, but everything else the kids used to decorate was straight from the garden and the great outdoors — acorns, cattails, sunflower seeds, pinecones, Indian corn and corn husks, ornamental grasses, pond fronds, hydrangea blossoms… the list goes on!The first group gathers their materials for decorating their pumpkin creatures; choosing materials is serious business. They imagined and created a great group of cute creatures, silly animals, scary monsters, and everything in between.Creating the perfect pumpkin creature was tons of fun for the kids… and parents too! Here are a few of the pumpkin creatures created at the meeting. If we’ve missed yours, please send us a picture of you with your creature and we’ll post it up! Hope to see you all for more fun learning, crafting and gardening at the next meeting in Spring 2014; watch your inbox for our invite email! (If you know a child ages 5-12 who would like to join the Kids Grow Club, membership is free and they can join by visiting Van Putte Garden Center and asking a member of the staff, or by downloading the application here)
