September 20, 2013 Color Your World, Fall, Flowers, Kids, Perennials, Plants, Seasonal, Spring, Timely Tips, Van Putte Gardens Though fall is just beginning, it’s also time to start thinking of spring (just a little). If you want great spring color from tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth, allium, snowdrops, etc., now is the time to get them in the ground. Our bulb shipment just arrived last week and we’ve of course got the classic red and yellow tulips, yellow narcissus (daffodils), and white, pink and purple hyacinth, but also some unique newer options, like white and pink daffodils, tulip mixes with different colors and shapes, fritillaria, and allium. You can plant bulbs up until the ground freezes this fall, and they’ll take right off once the ground starts thawing in the spring. We have a rainbow’s worth of varieties in the store and on the way to us from Holland, so while you’re setting up your mums, scarecrows and pumpkins this fall, take the time to dig a few holes for bulbs… we’ll all surely be ready for flowers by the time spring rolls around!
