Mother’s Day is a notable holiday for gardeners in NYS since it’s the date after which plants are usually safe from frost.  This year (2014) we may be a week or two behind after the cold winter and wet spring we’ve had, but hardier flowers like pansies & petunias, as well as cold weather vegetables like onions, cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower and potatoes, are certainly ready to plant outside.  Plus, we’re all antsy to get going, and let’s be honest — Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to buy extra flowers!  (Working here, it’s tough not taking everything home ourselves 🙂 )

Check out this news report that features our General Manager, Mike Griffin, for the low-down on this year’s weather:

So, celebrate your mom and celebrate the arrival of spring with flowers, vegetables, or some combination thereof.  As long as it’s green and growing, it’s all good!

Van Putte Gardens is open Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014, from 9-5 p.m.
