Today’s busy lifestyles demand a home space that’s flexible, comfortable, easy, and fun for all occasions, and one of the best ways to achieve that is to make your outdoor space a true extension of your home.

Boring backyards are out — they aren’t just wide open expanses of grass anymore, but instead mix existing lawn areas with flower & vegetable gardens, outdoor rooms, and container plantings to customize outdoor spaces.

As average home sizes shrink (according to the National Association of Home Builders), outdoor living spaces are becoming an extension of homeowners’ indoor spaces and personal styles.

This movement is becoming so prevalent that it’s generated its own buzzword — “garden-tainment” — and we love the idea; more plants and more time in the garden is always on trend with us!

New outdoor rooms can feature everything from unique container gardens, perennial beds and vegetable plantings, to large- or small-scale patio areas, outdoor kitchens, special lighting, water features, and fire pits.

The trick is blending the space and furnishings with the right plants, which is where container gardens come into play in a big way.  These portable gardens “set the space” in a matter of moments by adding pops of color and freshness to liven up your next barbecue or patio party.

When designing an outdoor room, try to mirror your home’s indoor style through architectural details and colors.  Outdoor furnishings come in all tastes and colors, so whether you want to go vintage and rustic, or clean and modern, you’ll find lanterns, fun accents, and furniture cushions to match your home’s unique feel and impression.

Go garden-to-table in a matter of moments!

Grilling in the garden is a super fun and relaxed way to spend a summer evening with the family, and grilling the fruits (and vegetables) of your labors is even better.  If you don’t have a designated vegetable garden, why not try planting a few vegetables in with your flower gardens, or create a few tabletop containers that combine flowers, herbs and lettuces?

Today’s garden-tainment focuses on creating functional as well as beautiful outdoor spaces that add value and comfort to your home, that the whole family can enjoy all season long.  Let these photos and your own home’s décor spark your imagination, then stop in this 3-day weekend to check out our full display of outdoor room-ready container gardens and accents.  Let’s bring the indoors out in 2015!
